How to remove earring backings?

Customer question: I'm curious if you have any suggestions on how to get the flat back post in my ear. I managed to get one in, but it was in an area with more cartilage. I'm struggling to get them in my earlobes at all.

Simple tips for inserting earrings:

  1. Hold the flat back of the earring between your thumb and index finger. Gently insert the post into your earlobe, pushing it in until the flat back sits snugly against your earlobe. Adjust the fit until it feels comfortable.

  2. Once the earring is in place, twist the flat back gently until it sits tightly against your earlobe.

Additional tip:

  • Apply Vaseline or a similar product around the piercing to make insertion easier.

  • Use an existing earring post as a guide to help position the flat back in the piercing. It may require some gentle force to push the earring into the piercing, but using a regular stud as a guide can be helpful.

PS: The customer did try the Vaseline to get in her earlobe!

Customer question: I ordered a pair of dangle earrings with round backings, I've never used these backings before and wanted to try them, however I have very shaky hands and am having a hard time. Do you have any tips on how to get the backings off?

Simple tips for unscrewing jewelry:

  1. Make sure your hands are clean and dry before attempting to unscrew the jewelry to prevent slipping.

  2. If there is enough space on the bar, hold it between your index finger and thumb. If only the balls are visible, firmly hold one of the balls.

  3. To loosen the jewelry, turn the balls in a counter-clockwise direction (to the left).

  • If your fingers are slipping, you can try wearing rubber gloves or using a piece of textured material as a buffer between your finger and the metal ball or bar. This will provide additional grip and make it easier to unscrew.

How to remove a stuck piercing?

  1. If a piercing ball is stuck, wearing latex or rubber gloves can provide enough grip to unscrew it. Ensure the jewelry is dry, then use your gloved hand to firmly grasp the ball and twist it off. The added traction from the gloves can help loosen the stuck ball.

  2. When removing starter earrings, you can use a pair of tweezers. Gently pinch the back of the earring and twist it off. If the earring is stuck, applying a few drops of rubbing alcohol can help loosen it.

What can be done if an earring can only go halfway through the earhole?

Simple tip for removing a stuck earring:

  1. Prepare a solution by mixing lots of salt into boiled water and letting it cool to a comfortable temperature. Soak a cotton ball in the solution.

  2. Hold the soaked cotton ball over the earring hole for about five minutes, applying gentle pressure on both sides if needed. This can help loosen the earring.

  3. Afterward, gently turn the earring post in the hole to ease it out. Clean the hole with another cotton ball soaked in the salt solution.

  4. If there is slight bleeding or weeping, immediately insert a pair of simple gold or hypoallergenic studs to prevent the hole from closing. Rotate the earring occasionally to prevent it from getting stuck again.

  5. If there is excessive bleeding, pus, or swelling. Consult a doctor for proper medical attention.
